about

David Alexander MacGruer

Cabinetmaker

From my workshop on the picturesque Belladrum Estate near Inverness, I design and make wooden furniture using carefully selected timber and high quality hardware. My work's aesthetic draws inspiration from various eras of modern design, emphasising the chosen wood's characteristics with subtle intricacies, clean lines and natural finishes.

My journey into the world of woodworking began in British Columbia, where I honed my skills at the Inside Passage School of Fine Cabinetmaking. It was here I embraced a philosophy deeply rooted in the teachings of master craftsman James Krenov. It taught a sensitive approach to woodworking, prioritising the connection between wood, tools and the intricate details of each piece. This philosophy has become the cornerstone of my professional life, and I am dedicated to the art of fine craftsmanship.
